What Number to Call? Please follow these guidelines...

When a true emergency exists, something urgent, that requires prompt police/fire attention please:

DIAL 911- for POLICE or FIRE EMERGENCIES (from Medford)

All other calls requiring police or fire to respond to a recent or past crime/incident that is not in-progress please:

DIAL 781-395-1212 for POLICE or 781-396-9400 for FIRE

Here are some considerations when deciding to call the police or fire. These considerations do not represent a comprehensive list of when or when not to call 911, instead they are a few suggestions to guide you in calling 911 :

  • All medical emergencies should be called into 911
  • If you are in doubt as to the emergency status of an incident call 911 (better safe than sorry)
  • All crimes in progress (personal injury or damage to property) requiring police intervention - call 911
  • All personal injuries or dangerous situations involving motor vehicle accidents - call 911
  • Power failures (where no injury is present) call 781-396-9400
  • Need to file a report about a past incident, call 781-391-6404
