Shortly before 8 pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, the Medford Police responded to the area of Rockwell Ave. near the Laprise Village housing development on a report of “Shots Fired”. The Medford Police patrol officers of the Field Services Unit quickly responded to the area. They were able to stop and detain several witnesses that were trying to flee the area. The alleged shooter had already made his get away from the area. To our knowledge, no one was shot or injured! The Medford Police Investigative Services Unit also responded to investigate this shooting.
The area of Riverside Ave. and Rockwell Ave. was closed for a few hours while the detectives processed the scene for evidence. Officer Harold MacGilvray and his K-9 partner Seamus conducted a track to see where the shooter may have gone. The track ended after a short distance where we think the suspect got into a motor vehicle and fled the area. The suspect was described as a black male with shoulder length dread locks. He was wearing a white tank top shirt with dark colored shorts or pants. He fled Rockwell Ave. to Riverside Ave. where he turned left in a westerly direction. He may have entered a dark colored SUV.
The detectives interviewed several witnesses at the police station after the shooting as well as several on scene interviews. Detectives are currently collecting video from various locations in that area to assist with the investigation. We believe that the shooter although reckless in his actions, was targeting a specific person in a crowd that was hanging around near the LaPrise Village development. Although we feel there is no need to panic because this was not a random shooting, we are urging people in this area to use caution because this reckless person with a gun endangers the lives of everyone that may be around his target. We urge anyone with any information to contact the Medford Police at 781-395-1212 or use Tips 411 which is anonymous.
Thank you for your help in solving this case,
