DESCRIPTION:Looking for family activities for April Vacation? \nCommunity Inclusion Day allows those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or developmental and learning disabilities an opportunity to meet\, interact and chat with our city’s first responders and emergency services in a safe and comfortable setting. We will have touch-a-truck\, a station tour\, merchandise and food. The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism will also be joining us\, as well as Tufts University Police Department with their comfort dog\, Pepper. Families will be able to register for our SafeWatch program which is utilized by our dispatchers to notify first responders of any specific needs of individuals in the home when responding to an emergency. ALL are welcome! \nThis event is funded by the Cummings Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Medford Police\, along with Medford Fire and Armstrong Ambulance\, will be holding a sensory-friendly inclusion day at the police station for tours and touch-a-truck activities. Families with individuals that have ASD and other physical and/or developmental disabilities are welcome. We will be having different first responder vehicles so individuals can familiarize themselves with them in case of an emergency. Families will also have the opportunity to enroll individuals in our Safe Watch Program.\n\nBecoming familiar with firefighters\, police officers and other first responders (and their vehicles & equipment) can help reduce anxiety and increase the chances of remaining safe during a real emergency. It is also helpful for first responders to meet the people with disabilities living in their community\, so they have a better understanding of how to communicate and learn what their needs are during an emergency.\n\nFor questions or special accommodation requests\, please email Jwalsh@medfordpolice.com.
