The Evidence Officer is responsible for the meticulous processing, preservation, and coordination of the examination of evidence collected by officers during investigations. This role ensures the secure management of all evidence and property under the Medford Police Department’s control, maintaining an unbroken chain of custody throughout the entire process.

If you were recently arrested and held overnight, your personal property was transported with you to Somerville District Court. Larger items will be stored at the Medford Police Department for up to 24 hours. Any property not retrieved within 24 hours will be disposed of.

If you remain in custody, you are responsible for contacting a family member or friend to collect your property on your behalf.

Please note that in certain cases, your property may be retained as evidence for an ongoing criminal investigation or case. In such instances, property cannot be released until the case has been resolved.
