The Community Engagement Unit (CEU) was established in 2021 during the planning of our first Faith & Blue event. While the unit currently consists of a lieutenant and two patrol officers, it operates as a true department-wide effort. The CEU organizes and participates in dozens of events each year, fostering meaningful connections throughout the city, including our week-long Junior Police Academy. The mission of the CEU echoes the Medford Police Department Mission Statement which includes “The mission of the Medford Police Department is to create a proactive partnership with the citizens of Medford by providing quality policing in partnership with the community, thereby improving the quality of life.”
The CEU hopes that fostering relationships through our social media channels and engagement through community events creates a partnership between the citizens and the police department to create a safer, more welcoming community for all. Effective community policing has a positive impact on reducing crime and helping to reduce fear of crime, thus enhancing the quality of life within the Medford community.
Part of the Community Engagement Unit is connecting with the community through our social media channels. The department currently utilizes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and NextDoor. As a police department, we recognize the importance of using social media to connect with our community members. It allows us to quickly disseminate information, share updates on ongoing investigations, post alerts about snow emergencies and other traffic advisories, and engage with the public. Social media also provides an opportunity for us to humanize our officers and showcase the positive work that they do on a daily basis. We encourage our community to follow us on social media to stay informed and engaged. Together, we can work towards a safer and more connected community.
