Medford Police Arrest 5 After Early Morning Motor Vehicle Stop

On Friday, June 7, 2024, at approximately 3:15 am, Sergeant Chris Covino was conducting patrol in the area of Medford Square when he observed a vehicle with heavy damage operating at a high rate of speed. He activated his emergency lights and sirens to initiate a motor vehicle stop, but the vehicle continued traveling down Riverside Ave at a high rate of speed. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Ross Street after striking a parked vehicle and then a curb, popping both of the tires on the right side and rendering it inoperable. At that time, Sergeant Covino, along with other arriving units, learned that the vehicle had been stolen in a nearby city a few hours prior. In situations where several crimes have already been committed and a vehicle is fleeing, it may indicate that the individual(s) involved have committed or are currently committing crimes using weapons. It is crucial for officers to exercise extreme caution in these types of situations. Officers were able to safely remove the five occupants from the vehicle and placed all five under arrest without incident.
