Medford Police Department Awarded Cummings Grant

Medford Police Department receives Cummings Foundation Grant for community engagement programs

MEDFORD — Chief Jack Buckley is proud to announce that the Medford Police Department is one of 150 local non-profits to receive a grant through Cummings Foundation’s $30 Million Grant Program. The Medford Police Department was awarded $105,000 over a period of three years which will go toward community engagement programs. The department was selected from nearly 300 applicants.

“The philosophy of the Medford Police Department is ‘Quality Policing Through Community Engagement’ and we are thrilled to receive this grant to not only further our existing community engagement programs, but to develop new ones in the future,” stated Chief Buckley, “These programs are critical to building strong relationships between law enforcement and the community we serve. By working together, we can ensure that our neighborhoods are safer for all of our residents.”

The Medford Police Department plans to use the grant funding to expand on existing community engagement initiatives such as National Night Out, Community Inclusion Day, Holiday Toy Drive and Senior Safety. The department also hopes to create new programs, some that are specific to the community’s youth population, which will be made possible by the funding. These programs are designed to foster positive relationships between the police department and the community, enhance trust, and promote public safety.

The department was among 150 non-profit organizations representing a wide variety of causes including food insecurity, social justice, education and mental health services spanning over 40 different cities and towns.
